The Lady Danced
      by Ed Howdershelt

    Around the bonfire
    Danced the Lady
    Drums kept up
    A steady beat

    Humming softly
    To Herself
    She built within
    A certain Heat

    I stood at
    Her circle
    Rapt and
    entranced

    She placed
    Herself
    Near me as
    She danced

    For quite some time
    She swayed before me
    This Goddess-Woman
    Appraised me there

    Then suddenly
    her dance had ended
    So close I wanted
    To touch her hair

    She governed her
    Heat By act of will;
    She met my eyes
    And stood quite still

    I asked myself;
    "Has She chosen me?"
    "Will I be Her One,
    as I prayed to be?"

    The Lady spoke;
    "You're bewitched, I see."
    "Will you come be my One?"
    "Will you love with me?"
